First ultrasound at 18 weeks??

Question

This is my first pregnancy and I have my first appointment on August 10th (they wouldn't see me until I'm 8-10 weeks). I was told when I made the appointment that they do not schedule the first ultrasound until 18 weeks unless there seems to be a complication. I've read online that this is normal for some doctors to do, but I'm wondering if anyone on here is in the same boat??

Last pregnancy I wouldn't have gotten one until 18-20 weeks if I hadn't done the elective Nuchal translucency screening at 13 weeks. This pregnancy I am having on at almost 8 weeks though. Different dr in the practice ordered it. My dr does do ultrasounds on site so I wouldn't receive many unless they need to monitor something.

Same here. I go to a birth center and they typically only do one ultrasound at 18-20 weeks unless there is a medical reason. I will have one at 12-13 weeks because I am opting to do genetic testing, so that's likely an option for you as well. Last pregnancy (same birth center), I ended up having ultrasounds every month in the second half of pregnancy because I had markers for IUGR (restricted growth) and they wanted to make sure baby was growing.

I thought it was standard to do the first ultrasound around 8 weeks (at least in the US). I'm actually choosing to wait until 20 weeks for my ultrasound unless something seems wrong. I don't want to expose the baby to sound waves while its organs are developing. I definitely didn't think that was the standard approach though. I'm just being a little paranoid/as-natural-as-possible.

Same here! With my first baby I didn't have my first ultrasound until 19 weeks. My doctor only does 2 ultrasounds per pregnancy, one at 20 and another at about 35-37 weeks. Its a bummer, but it also means everything is okay with baby!

My doctor normally does a sonogram at 8-10 weeks and then an ultrasound at 18 weeks. My first appt is the first.  I'll be 7ish weeks at that point.

That doesn't sound right, but I guess every doctor treats differently. My first pregnancy I got an ultrasound at 6 weeks 2 days then again at 19 weeks for sex determination. This time around they waited til I was about 7 weeks (I thought I was 8 weeks when I scheduled). They have another one around 10 weeks I think to test for some abnormalities.

I don't go to my first appointment until the 28th of this month... They told me I don't get an ultrasound until after that appointment so I don't know when I will get to see my baby 😭 I'm already 8 weeks and I really am impatient! So I'm in the same boat.
