Birth Control: The Patch

So I am getting married this December, I've never had sex and I've never been on birth control. I have done tones of research on birth control and The Patch seems like the best choice for me. Everything else scares me! I have a couple questions. Have any of you ever gained weight using this form of BC? What are some of the side effects/ do you have any tips for me? I dont want my period on my honeymoon so any tips for that? Thank you so much!

P.s. When getting birth control do you just call a doctors office or what?
