How late before your bfp?

Did it take anyone a long time of being late before their first bfp? Also, just wondering if anyone can relate, but this morning after my doctor recommended I test again I really thought I could see a vvf line on a dollar store test but it was in the wrong spot? Closer to the edge of the window. I figured nothing I can do but wait but when I looked later it definitely wasn't there anymore anyway. Is it possible a positive could show up in the wrong spot and being so faint could it disappear?
