Feedings for 7 week old? On demand or schedule

Question

I was wondering if it's ok to feed my 7 week old on demand. She is past her birth weight she is 7.9 pounds and was born at 5.14 pounds. I was told she needs 8 to 12 feedings a day and I'm wondering how that will work if she's feeding on demand since she still sleeps quite a bit during the day. She is also formula fed since I've had problems producing breast milk from day one. Please don't sham me for formula feeding. Just want opinions and others experiences with feedings for your little one.

I feel bad that you feel like you need to tell people not to criticize the fact that you are formula feeding. You are doing what is best for your baby.... you shouldn't apologize for that. :)

Our pediatrician told us at our 2 week visit that since he is already over his birth weight, we can relax and just feed him on demand. So I would think that once you get past that hurdle, your baby will just feed whenever he/she is hungry. The pediatrician said that since they've been able to gain their weight back, they clearly know when they're hungry and will let you know by waking up and giving you hunger cues.

I was told by a lactation consultant that developmentally babies aren't usually ready for a schedule until about 4 months.  So it sounds like you're doing exactly what you should be!

Mine is 5 weeks old. I have fed on demand since day 1, never woke him up from a nap. He lets me know when he is hungry for sure and he is well above weight at 12 pounds! So he definitely is eating good! Every mother likes doing their own thing. If you feel more comfortable scheduling, do it, if you feel comfortable enough to go on demand, do it! 🌞

I've done on demand since day 1. I kept getting in trouble for it but I didn't care, she's my daughter I'll do what I think is best. she lets me know when she's hungry and she's 3lbs over her birth weight.

My daughter is 6 weeks, formula fed, and eats 5-6 times a day on demand. She's almost set her own schedule basically, but l put her on one when I go back to work in 5 weeks.

My baby is 7 weeks. She formula feeds on demand. She eats about every 3-4 hours during the day and goes 7 hours at night.

I've had my baby on a schedule ever since we brought him home. He had jaundice and needed to be woken up and forced to eat every 2-hours. Once he got thru that we went to every 3-hours. At 5 weeks we still wake him (if needed, he usually wakes on his own) to eat every 3-hours during the day. At night we do not wake him and he sleeps 4-hours between feedings.

Formula or breast milk it doesnt matter as ling as yr child ia happy and healthy after 2 weeks if baby is sleeping threw the night then juat feed on demand ans if u get to engorged express or pump out the access. Milk
