6 days old- umbilical cord fell off early. Does this look normal? It doesn't smell, no fever, baby is not fussy. I called the nurse advice line and they told me it's ok if there's no inflammation or smell but I'm still kinda freaking out

My babies umbilical cord stump fell off 5 days after he was born and I made an appt just in case. There was no smell and not much fluid but I wanted to still make sure. The pediatrician told me to make sure to keep it clean with alcohol wipes if it had fluid leak out and to let the belly button get as much air as possible so I left my baby in just a diaper most of the time or would only put on a shirt so his belly button didn't stick to anything like a onesie. As long as it's not bleeding, red and irritated around the belly button, and no smell it should be fine .

that happened to my son at probably 12 days, they told me the same thing. there was even pus and a weird (but not bad per se) smell! I just cleaned it once a day with a damp q tip, it cleared up pretty well, he's 3 weeks now and it's just bleeding a little now :)

Same with ours after a week and bit, got told to use water and cotton wool to clean only.
If it begins to go red and weep then it should dry up after another week.

My son's also looked like that too, they told me no bath until it was completely dry, took a couple days.
