Technically it's the copper IUD. It's 99.9% effective which is almost a full percent above the others listed here.

I just got an IUD. I didn't like the idea of the patch because it's visible. I don't want my partner seeing some huge patch on me. You can't reverse any side effects from the shot. The pill you have to take daily, at the same time everyday, for it to be effective and that gets annoying. The implant you can feel in your arm and I wanted to go with something with minimal hormones.

I would suggest using the implant as a last option. It's way easy to switch the pill to the patch or to the ring or whatever. But there's a lot of commitment with Nexplanon. If you end up not liking the side effects, most places charge you an arm and a leg to get it removed early.

Hormonal IUDs (Mirena, Skyla, Liletta, Jaydess etc) and the Depo shot are the most effective birth control on the market currently, giving around 99.9% protection.

Next would be the pill, dermal patches and vaginal rings at around 99.7%.

Then the copper IUD or Paragard at 99.4%.

Then condoms at 98%. I think cervical caps, female condoms and diaphrams are also around the 98% mark.

For me, the NuvaRing. I hated the pill, am allergic to adhesive so I can't do the patch, have no interest in relying on a doctor to insert an IUD or implanon rod, and I'm not a fan of condoms or the "pull-out method".
