Night terrors?

When can night terrors start?  2x now my son has woken from a dead sleep just with this blood curdling scream.  NOT hunger, no firm stomach from gas, no dirty diaper, just dead sleep and boom awake screaming! Its scared the shit out of me both times! 
Is this night terrors!? Has anyone else experienced this!?

My son is 4.5 and has night terrors, they started abt 6 months ago and it can be terrifying. He just wakes up screaming and out of control and doesn't recognise anyone and then keeps asking for mama and won't register that that's me. To be honest from what we've read there isn't anything u can do abt it, apparently u just have to let them get thru it, they're in a trance basically so no matter what u do or say they won't snap out of it until they do so themselves. It can get really scary so I know how u feel, really hope he gets better. Sorry I can't be more help, hopefully someone here has some helpful advice!

My daughter started having them at 4 months. She just woke up screaming in a weird pitch voice and I'd scoop her up and walk around the house with her at a semi fast pace while cuddling and shed knock out after a few minutes.. Creepy shit
