Baby shower question?

I'm pregnant with my first child. A baby boy. I'm so stuck my baby shower. Are you really suppose to go all out of a baby shower? My co worker spent over $1100 for her baby shower. I was going to do a fall theme since I'm due in November. Then I thought why not just go to dollar tree or party city for decorations and do everything in blue and grey? My co worker said baby showers look cheap if you do the blue boy theme. What do you ladies think? Any suggestions?
