Have the perfect man except for his addiction and need for alcohol. He's not abusive when he's been drinking but drinks often and excess. Should I stay?

He wants to get married and I do too and I want to live with him but I don't know if I should let this one thing deter from everything else he is. He's supportive and wonderful in so many ways. It's just the drinking .. Help!

I am an alcoholic woman in recovery and based upon my experience and wreckage I created, this is not a healthy relationship to be in. Drinking 11 beers is not something a "normal" drinker does.

If me and my husband would've broken up because of our addictions, we would have broke up a long time ago. It sounds like your man is definitely an alcoholic. If you love him, tell him that he needs help. Tell him that if he doesn't try to get clean then you need to take a break. But I'd you really love him then stay and try as hard as you can to get him sober.

Honestly, don't! Don't marry him,don't break up with him. If you love him explain why your not comfortable moving forward explain to him when he is sober or mostly sober why you are uncomfotable with his drinking, he has to be the one to decide when to stop drinking, but you can show him wha he is doing to you and your relationship. DO NOT MOVE FORWARD! Just because he's not Abusive now dosnt mean he won't become abusive. Deal with this issue.now or leave him... Alcoholism should and is a deal beaker. You may love him but know that you may not be able to help him. Just stay strong and understand that a life with an alcoholic is dangerous and unsafe for both you and any children you may bring into the picture. Attempt to get him help but if he refuses the alcoholism with take over both of your lives and finances.

Tell him how you feel... Explain to him that you love everything about him except for his drinking and if he wants to marry you the drinking is something he will have to give up ... And if he is not willing to try to get help or correct issue then it's time to move on don't waste your life waiting around for someone to change because he may never change...

Try speaking to him say it's putting a wedge on your relationship. How long has he been drinking?? If you speak to him about it say could you cut down on drinking... Don't tell him to stop though as he may think your going against him. How long has he been doing this x

Try and talk to him. But don't bug him about it as this could turn him. If you've done plans you could say "drink booze slower as it's going to be a big day" you can say something like that. Don't try and take it way from him as this could change him. If he's been an alcoholic for a while then all I can say is you will have to life with it until he decides if he wants to stop. Be careful what you say as any little thing you say about booze it can change someone. But I would more tell him to drink less when plans. X

My stepdad has a Ministry for helping addicts (www.clprm.org). You definitely don't want to get married into that. I'm not saying to leave him but it's a very serious problem that he needs to get help for. I know it will be hard for him… It is a daily fight. It is possible though and if he truly does love you and wants to marry you he will quit for you. If you feel deep down you do not want a fiancee/husband who drinks like that do not settle! You will regret it. If you truly want to stay with him and help him through this show him that you care and that you are there for him no matter what. Help him find the support he needs to quit and be accountable to him so he can be accountable to you.

His mom told me he has been a drinker for some time.. And that I need to decide if that is something I can deal with. Just more recently he has picked up on the drinking .. I explained to him yesterday about being a responsible person when it comes to drinking and doing so when he doesn't need to go anywhere so he doesn't affect plans - I don't mind people drinking I just think you need to be aware of a cut off based on your plans for the day .. And that alcohol is not a good form of dealing with life stress. Thanks for your comments
