Filthy House

Starrlight

Ive become really close friends with a classmate of mine. She is 30 with 2 kids, ages 5 and 9. Her and her kids always look so well kept.Clean clothes, fresh haircuts and very well presentable. We always meet up for playdates and either my house or another location. Ive suggested several times if we meet at her house and their is always an excuse. Recently she left her school folder in my car and asked if I could drop it off for her,she said she will be at work but her husband and kids are home. I drive up to her house, very suburbian looking. Clean lawn, trimmed hedges and a beautiful rose garden. I ring her doorbell and her daughter cracks open the door, just enough for her head to peak out.I told her I was their to drop off her Moms folder and she offered me in to see her new kitten. Well, the poor child couldnt open the door all the way open because of the amount of TRASH that was all around the door. I had a hard time stepping over, dirty clothes,a bicycle ,pizza boxes, tons of trash bags and so much more. I was in complete shock! Her house was filthy,I wouldnt even see her floors and the little girl was chasing this kitten around while standing on mounds of trash that easily made her 2feet taller. We made our way to the kitchen and the stench hits you,it smelled like dirty kitten litten and spoiled milk. The sink was piled high with dirty dishes sitting in slimy water AND the counter tops had kitten poo on it. As I looked around in shock im seeing how bad things really are. Their is no where for the kids to sit,the floors covered in trash, piles of dirty clothes that the cat poops on and flies everywhere.I hear a back door open and the Dad walks in. He looked so embarressed when he saw me. I told him why I was their and that his daughter offered me in to see that cat. He honestly didnt say much,he said thanks and showed me my way out....So,a couple days go by and my classmate mentions that I was in her house. I was completly honest with her. I told her that her house needs a really good, deeeeep clean for the health and safety of the kids. Watching her daughter walk on mounds of trash seeing all the kitten poo was horrible and that can not be healthy. I offered to come to her house every weekend and help her clean it. She got really defensive and refuses to talk to me. I left her a long text telling her im not judging her and that im here to help her and her family. She doesnt think her house is hazardous in any way. Im so lost on what to do. Its been about a month now and nothing has changed. My husband thinks I should report her to CPS,he said it might be the only chance these kids will have to a safe and clean home enviroment. Im lost, what should I do?

***Update*** So I told my classmate that if she refuses my help I will go to the city, this was on Monday. She pretty much told me off and said no way. Today as im walking out of class she stops me and snobbishly taunts me asking If I have gone to the city yet. I told her no ,that im giving her till friday to accept my help or get help for the sake of her kids. She blows up on me at school :/ and tells me she will make my life hell if I report her.Ive never seen this side of her,so odd! Anyways Friday is coming up and im going first thing in the morning.
