Clomid Problems & side effects
Clomid: Two dangerous side effects to be aware of - my story shared.
Many of my friends have been successful with clomid, it's the first step and a simple approach. Unlike those lucky ones, Per my fertility doctor I can not take oral clomid again. At 38 years old ttc#1, my first (5 month) use of clomid went fine with only a little bloating and it helped regulate my very irregular cycle.
We then moved on to IUI. Higher doses of clomid gave me, I now have learned, two of the worst and most dangerous clomid side effects; depression and eye pain/light sensitivity. Thankfully, the depression lasted only 5 days and subsided 2 days after the last pill. The next IUI attempt I was aware of the depression side effect and was ready for it but it didn't happen. Instead, a headache started two days into taking clomid. The headache escalated into excrutianing, bulging eye pain - it felt as if my eyes were going to burst. This pain was accompanied by piercing sensitivity to light leaving me with the blinds drawn, sunglasses on and my head under a pillow. Ostrich-like for two days and unable to research on-line with the computer's glowing screen, I finally asked my husband to look into this experience. Of course, looking up medical pains online never results in a happy outcome. I left a message for my specialist about my pain and they called back immediately in the most concerned voice I've ever received from a doctor, they were ordering me to stop taking clomid immediately and informed me my approach will be altered moving forward. I had finished my 5 days of clomid so we proceeded with the IUI. It seems the internet was accurate in the scary outcomes of my eye pain experience. I didn't get pregnant but Our silver lining, my eye pain subsided without permanent damage.
Our 3rd attempt of IUI involved shots instead of the standard pills. I did not have any side effects.
Two years after starting this journey, we are more informed of cycle induced body changes after the lessons learned from our attempts of IUI. Tracking with glow, cultivating a less stressful, low tech approach while still TTC #1, it's back to the basics for us. Hopefully your clomid experience is more fruitful & less adventurous. I wish you luck.
