You have 1 day to actually conceive a baby yes. But 4 to 6 days that having sex can result in a pregnancy.

Sperm lives 3 to 5 days but the egg only lives 12 to 24 hours. So if you happen to have sex 2 days before the egg released the sperm from the 2 days ago might still be alive to attaché to the egg resulting in a pregnancy.

Let's say your egg released tonight at 10 pm (no one really knows the exact time) you can have sex tomorrow morning around 8am and still get pregnant.

You COULD say one day each month to get pregnant, technically, yeah. But that doesn't mean there's only one day when having sex could result in a pregnancy.

Women ovulate once per cycle, and the egg is only able to be fertilized for maybe 24 hours. So during those 24 hours is the only time when fertilization can occur. But sperm can survive inside a woman for maybe three days. So if you have sex three days before ovulation, you could get pregnant.

Which means that while there is only one day where you can "get pregnant" in terms of fertilization occurring, there is about a four day window in which having sex could result in a pregnancy. Whether that means the sperm just hangs out a few days waiting for the egg, or they both arrive around the same time, or whether the egg gets there first and the sperm joins shortly after.

Figuring out exactly which four days those are, that's the hard part!
