Suggestions on paying a babysitter?

We are expecting twins in November and I plan to go back to work 10 weeks after they are born. I have someone who has offered to watch them 2 days a week. She is not licensed, just a friend of a friend. Does anyone have a suggestion on what is a reasonable amount to pay her?

With twins, you have to assume that it will be more than a single. If you can land in the $12-$15 range, that is very fair (and even on the low end of the going rate). That said, since she is a friend of a friend, maybe she will agree to the lower end! I think anywhere under $10 may be perceived as insulting.

It really depends on how long she will be watching them. I would say anywhere from $5-10 an hour.... But you can always ask her! I personally was always someone that when asked, told them whatever they were willing. If I babysat for four hours, I usually just got about $20 and that was for two older kids, and I was a teenager.

Newborns keep in mind , I was a nanny for twins girls also Cpr certified and my minimum for two was $17-20/hr . Also see what's your budget and talk  with her to make sure you are both in agreeance just because she's a friend and not cpr certified doesn't mean she won't give your kids the best of care, good luck .

Look at care.com. look at cheapest rate and keep in mind they are cpr trained and come with references. Or ask around at mommy and me, nextdoor or other places to get an idea since location will matter.

I ask between $12-$15 an hour. Not sure if it's because I babysit around the Hoboken NJ area. But my base is always $12 an hour no matter the location
