Undergoing first round of IUI this week, any tips on what to expect?

Hi everyone,

I'm 30 years old and my husband is 37. We have been TTC x 3 years with no luck. My fertility specialist has said that our infertility is more due to my husbands sperm. I have mild hypothyroidism and have been taking Synthroid for approx. 6 months now. I work as a RN in the hospital setting.

I guess I'm just looking for what to expect with the IUI process. I was taking the birth control pill continuously x 2 months and it was terrible - weight gain, migraines, emotional ++.  I have a history of migraines in the past and these were pretty terrible. It doesn't help that I cannot take imitrex or any NSAIDS.

I go tomorrow morning for my ultrasound and start serophene. The other medications I have been prescribed include - prometrium, ovidrel, and estrace. I see  large list of potential side effects - anyone out there care to share?

I'm pretty nervous and I just am afraid to get my hopes up. How many cycles does the average person have before it takes?

I'd love to hear any stories if anyone is willing to share. Much appreciated. God bless.

I am in my TWW after my 2nd IUI. I used clomid, Ovidrel and progesterone in both. The things I didn't know were:
- I had to go in for multiple ultrasounds. They like to see a follicle at a specific measurement before they want you to do the Ovidrel
- I had to do the shot myself (probably not as big of a deal for an RN) 
- I started progesterone the night after the IUI and it's a suppository... Yep you stick it up there. And you have to wear a pantyliner bc it leaks out pink goo
- The procedure is much like a pap. Not too bad, may experience cramping during but I felt fine after

What is serophene? My first IUI will be either the 15th or 16tg depending on my surge? I'm not on any fertility meds whatsoever, I am also taking synthroid to lower my TSH levels, which in a months time have dropped a lot and right where they need to be. They weren't too bad to begin with and I started out at 3.69. I think my situation is a little diff than most hence why im not on any fertility meds but just curious what meds you are referring too. We might be TWW buddies 🙂 baby dust to you ✨✨✨✨

Hi there. IUI Is fast, easy, and affordable. You really don't need any extra meds for it either. You will be in and out of doc office in ten minutes. No pain (maybe little cramp for a sec).
