Is ending a relationship over tattoos too much?

My boyfriend currently has just 1 tattoo and just barely dropped the news that he intends on being pretty covered. This was right after I told him that I think they are unattractive. He is the most amazing person I know, and I know the tattoos aren't going to change that. But I feel sex is a big part of a long term relationship, so how am I supposed to be with a guy covered in my personal turn offs? And a thought that keeps circulating in my head is how could someone keep getting things done that they know are going to hurt the relationship if they truly value it?
