How many diapers?

Question

I'm a first time mom and I have absolutely NO knowledge of babies. I've never been around them. I'm 25 weeks and 5 days. I'm trying to buy as much as I can including diapers. I just wanted to see what other mommas used. Like what brand, how many have you been through with the newborn and all other different sizes? I have plenty of wipes already, I just need advice on diapers.

Opposed to sticking up on diapers set money aside for them. You never know how big your baby will be when and how many of each diaper you'll need.

I'm not stocking up too much because I've heard from a lot of people that some brands work better than others depending on the baby. Also, some babies are sensitive to the materials in some brands and get rashly.  To start with I've bought a weeks worth of size 1 pampers and a weeks worth of a cheaper store brand that's won lots of awards. I'll try both before buying more of whatever works best. I've heard that for the first month or so you can expect a baby to get through 10 diapers a day on average.

We never used newborns for my 7lb 11oz baby. Even though she wore newborn cloths for 6wks. We used size 1 for 2 months size 2 for 3 months and she's been in 3s ever since, she's 9 months. If you want to stock up on anything I suggest wipes, pampers sensitives are awesome, I never realized how many wipes we'd go through. We use pampers swaddlers its the only diapers we've never had leaks with. Yes you can return diapers but waiting in line to return them with an infant is torture!

Depends on size of baby when born my baby only stayed in newborn diapers for like a week after birth then moved to size 1 for like a month and a half and now size two

I'd say get one or two packs of newborn/size one but other than that you have no idea how long they'll use each size. My son skipped size 3 or 4 (I can't remember which) because there was barely a size difference. Just put money away for it. There's no huge need to stock up on them.

If you're having a baby shower, you'll get s ton of diapers then so I'd wait it out. Even if not, each baby is different and you won't know how long your baby will be in each size. I have a six week old and we go through about 15-20 diapers a day. And out of parents choice, huggies, luvs and pampers, pampers have been our favorite. We use swaddles or baby dry (swaddles are softer, baby dry hold more). Newborn sizes are made for babies up to about ten pounds usually. Hope this helped!

This screenshot came from southern savers. She calculates you'll need about 2900 diapers during year 1: 840 size 1, 560 size 2, and 1512 size 3. I usually buy at CVS with coupons, so I get the jumbo pack of around 30. Started buying in 2nd trimester and I'm pretty much stocked up for 1st year. Baby is now 4 months. I don't pay more than 10 cents a diaper (usually way less). We are in 2s now and thus far the calculations have been close! I had a pack of 1s left that I gave as baby gift!

We got different brand diapers from people at our baby shower so we got to try different brands. I really like pampers swaddlers the best and luvs are pretty good too. I also prefer pampers wipes. I'm so glad I got to try different things instead of just sticking to like huggies or something. They're good too but not as good as the others in my opinion. With diaper changing it really all depends. Mine pees a lot and poops a lot some days so some weeks we go through more than others. I know that they are in 2s for a pretty good amount of time so maybe buy the most of those. Mine was only in newborn for about a month and we never bought diapers. Only went through one big box of them. It's not really predictable so you just kind of have to wait and see. Mines 4 months now and I still have a hard time finding a pattern lol

Newborn I wanna say I was using 10+ a day, also a first time mom, stay at home as well so I'd change her as soon as I noticed. We use huggies little snugglers and absolutely love them. She's now in size 3 and we buy two boxes of 150 a month. Still change her as soon as I notice and she has yet to have a diaper rash (:
