Cervical Mucus

What is cervical mucus really?

Cervical mucus, or CM, is a bodily fluid that moistens and protects our cervixes. Its consistency changes throughout the course of our cycles and can help us figure out when are our most fertile times.

Although it's such a vital component of women's health, many of us are grossed out by even just the name. Some deem "cervical mucus" a little too taboo and opt for the more neutral term, "cervical fluid" instead. But why? One theory is that the term cervical fluid is analogous to a man's seminal fluid therefore making it more acceptable (what's up with that??). Yet interestingly, seminal fluid would never be called "seminal mucus."

What do you think? Do you have a preference? Does one or the other gross you out and why?
