Heavy flow/anemic

So I've been advised. By a gyno. To skip my period for4-5 months at a time because I lose to much blood and become anemic. But my stomach hurts really bad leading up the the week where I'm supposed to have a period, like I need to go to the toilet every hour at least. Anyone experience something similar??
