Not returning to work?

Hi ladies,
I have insurance through my work which I want to use to cover my delivery. However I'm not certain I want to return to work after I have my baby.
My work offers maternity leave through short term disability insurance. 
What can I do?
Can I contact them 2 weeks after delivery and resign? Will I have to pay anything back?
HR person at my company wouldn't give me a clear answer and that person is on the side of the owners not employees so I do not want to keep pressuring with my question. TIA

I did this. Take your maternity leave as if you are coming back, then two weeks before youre expected to return, put in your notice. They can't do anything to you. You're still an employee while on maternity leave, and as long as your insurance premiums are being paid, they have to cover you until you are no longer an employee.

You shouldn't have an issue not  returning. My friend did the same thing and her company understood. Legally speaking, they cannot do anything about it. They can be asshole to you as much as they want, but they can't make you give any money back. Just say after being home, you've decided to stay home. They legally have to cover everything up until they hear the words come out of your mouth that you want to quit.

My company requires that their portion of the insurance premiums paid during maternity leave be paid back if I don't come back for at least 30 days. Try finding some other employees who know someone who left during maternity leave. They're the ones I found out through, because it happened to a lady about a month before I started.

I would wait until your leave is almost over. Say your taking 8 weeks paid, put in your two weeks at 6 week into leave.

If you do that after the baby is born you probably wouldn't receive any money. Wait until closer to your may leave being done.
