What's this chromosomal sex test I keep hearing about?

I'm curious about what it is and why someone would want to do it?

If you're talking about what I think you are its a blood test that checks for chromosomes mostly 13, 18, 21 and the sex chromosomes. It's to check if the right number of each are there. Its just a blood draw so it's safer than an amnio but more accurate than the normal first trimester screening. You can find out the sex of the baby with it but that's not the point. I'm having it done because with my last pregnancy my first trimester screening was normal but at our anatomy scan we found out there was a problem and I lost my little guy at 25 weeks to trisomy 13. My biggest fear is that this one will have the same problem and this test is the safest way to find out.
