Period ended straight after sex?

So the other day me and my boyfriend were having sex and it seemed as though I had come on my period (the blood was dark red, not as though anything had been cut or whatever) but straight after there was nothing there at all.. Is it that it was my period and it stopped stone cold, is that even possible? I don't know what else it could be..
