My Birth Story

It's a little late but here it is....I was 39 weeks 2 days and had no effacement, baby was still high, and I was 1/2cm dilated. I was having Braxton hicks/contractions for about a week. My husband and I went to the hospital so I could be induced (for health reasons). I was walking daily to help me dilate but nothing helped. Anyway, at 1pm on a Monday, my dr inserted the cervadil to help my cervix ripen b4 I could get the pitocin. He made it known that it has to stay in for 12 hours and that I may need up to 3 doses. After it was inserted, I had to lie down for 2 hours. After that, I was able to walk around. My dr ordered a liquid diet for me so I ate at about 4pm. My contractions were getting a little stronger. My husband and I started to walk around the unit at about 7pm. We walked until 8pm. My contractions were coming every 4 minutes lasting about 60 seconds. By 8:15pm I was uncomfortable. My vagina was sooooo sore from the cervadil as well. I'm an RN at this hospital so I knew what meds to ask for. My nurse checked me and I was only 1.5cm at 9pm. I asked for a combination of phenergan and nubaine. It allowed me to sleep. At 11pm, my contractions were every 2 minutes lasting 90 seconds. I wasn't able to catch a break. I was almost hyperventilating from the breathing. I was holding the left bed railing so tight but I never once yelled or cried (which is a shocker). At this point, my water broke on its own. At 12am, I asked for the epidural. I got it at 12:15am and I was 2cm. It only took on the left side and I must mention that I had back labor. I only felt the contractions in my hips and my back. The anesthesiologist offered to redo it but I said no. At 4am my nurse came to check me becuz my bp was 88/65. She gave me a bolus of lactated ringers and checked me. She saw a head full of hair and asked if I felt pressure or the need to poop. I told her no. I only felt contractions. She checked me and I was 10cm and totally effaced. I went from 2cm at 12:15am to 10cm at 4am. She called my dr. He was in shock becuz the plan was to get induced with pitocin at 7am. He told my RN to tell me not to push and he wud be there in 20 minutes. I had no urge to push any way. My daughter's heart rate was fine and I was fine. So we waited. My dr arrived at 4:26am and he gowned up and told a few jokes about me being a 1st time mom and I pushed 3 times and out came my baby. I had the best experience with this childbirth. I've included a picture of myself in the hospital bathroom the day of my induction.
