Withdrawal Basics

Research shows that a significant number of women are opting for withdrawal as their primary method of birth control. So let's talk about the withdrawal method!

Cons:

- When NOT ALWAYS performed correctly, 27 out of 100 women will get pregnant!

- It does NOT protect against STDs

- It takes a lot of experience for a man to know for sure when he is going to ejaculate, therefore it is NOT recommended for teens or inexperienced men.

Pros:

- When ALWAYS performed correctly, 4 out of 100 women will get pregnant.

- It can be used to prevent pregnancy when no other method is available since it's free and convenient.

- It has no medical or hormonal side effects.

The withdrawal method can also help increase the effectiveness of other forms of birth control, such as the cap, condom, diaphragm, or female condom.

***Keep in mind that when using withdrawal in combination with a condom, your partner should remember to hold the base of the condom while withdrawing to prevent any spillage or tearing of the condom, which can increase risk of pregnancy.
