Not checking HCG levels?

Hi. I'm 4 weeks 4 days along and it is my first pregnancy. I've noticed that many people on Glow have been posting their HCG levels. My OB didn't scheduled my first appointment until I'm 8 weeks along. Why does some OB docs check HCG and not others? Is it a standard to do so or a depends if it is a high risk pregnancy?

Generally, if you have bleeding, or a history of miscarriage they'll track your hcg to make sure it's doubling.

I had mine checked right away due to the medication I'm on. Like she said, they usually don't check unless you have a medical need or history of issues. Every OB is different, so they may do it if you ask, but I don't think it's standard procedure.

Hmm. I have a history of early miscarriages and my doctor today didn't schedule HCG. Said first ultrasound will be in 2 weeks (7weeks). But, maybe it's so I don't worry so much. I'm a HUGE worrier....

Mine were checked because my auntflo is super irregular and they needed to figure out how far along I was.

Mine were checked a couple of times last week because I had a miscarriage in June. I also am going for an early ultrasound at 6w4d for the same reason. If it weren't for the miscarriage I wouldn't see the doctor until I'm around 9 weeks

I was worried about that too, because I won't have an appt until the 25th, when I'm 7 weeks. The nurse told me that was standard though, so I'm trying to have a good attitude!
