Baby Shower Advice

Rebekah
My mom wants to throw a small shower that I can invite friends and work colleagues too.   Her family lives out of state, so they are not able to attend.  My mother in law's best friend was incredibly gratious in hosting a large wedding shower for me last year and invited all of my friends, my husbands family, my moms family, and my dads family.  She has offered to host my baby shower, but politely suggested that we keep is smaller.  Which I completely understand!  However, I'm not sure what to do about my dads family.  My dad is remarried and I have some aunts and cousins from his side that I'm sure would like to attend a baby shower.  I think they are just assuming that my mother in law will host another big shower for them to attend.  Do I politely mention that I'm having two small showers without my dads side to my dad or his wife?  Or do I just say nothing.  I feel that it's tacky to ask someone to throw you a shower, but I know that they will be disappointed to not be included and it wouldn't occur to any of them to offer.  Any advice on how to approach this without offending anyone??
