Travelling when 36 weeks pregnant?!

Hi Ladies. I just want a bit of advice/opinions please.

Myself and my hubby live up North (UK) and each year we switch Christmas between family's, this year it's at his family home which is down South and a 5 hour car journey on a good day without stops.

His mum is adamant we're going down and won't stop going on about it, his dad on the other hand is more on my side saying "we'll see" etc.

When we're at their house I will be an hour away from the hospital (our own home in 15mins away) Do I seem unreasonable saying I don't want to go down?! I don't think she is seeing it from my point of view of being heavily pregnant and not wanting to be away from home incase I go into labour or anything.

I have asked hubby if he things they would come up here if we don't go down but he didn't seem sure they would.

What do you all think? Would you guys do such a long Journey? Or am I being unreasonable?

Nope! I wouldn't do it! 
If you know and like your hospital why would you run the risk of possibly having to deliver elsewhere? And then having to travel back that distance with a newborn! 
I'm going nowhere this year and at 38w will not be hosting either! 😌

Sit this one out if you don't feel comfortable or ask them to come visit you. It's not worth the risk.

I would definitely ask them to come to you. We are in same situation. Due 25th Jan so 36 weeks right at Christmas. 
My folks are three hours north in Scotland, and I don't think I would be comfortable driving that close to due date
Although having said that I would like the bub to be born in Scotland but not that much. 
You just need to do what you think is right, I would say distance from hospital is big factor.

I wouldn't do it if it stresses you out, but I do not think going would be a big deal. 1 hour away from a hospital is not that bad in most cases. And driving home with a newborn is actually pretty easy as they sleep most of the time. The only real difference is that it wouldn't be your dr delivering. Here in Texas, it is rare to have your dr deliver anyway unless your baby comes during business hours or your dr is the on call dr. My first was a woman I had never met. If you do consider going, just research the hospital there and make sure they have a good maternity ward. Again, do what makes you comfortable, but don't stress of you do decide to go.

Most doctors don't want you traveling past 34 weeks and if you do it can't be more than 2 hours from the hospital you're suppose to deliver at

I'm due January 19th and we aren't making the 3 hour drive to my husband's parents house. We are doing our first solo "just us" Christmas. I'm not high risk or anything, but it's too risky to travel at 30 something weeks in my opinion.

I am an American military spouse and my insurance does not allow travel of more then 45 mi after 36 weeks.  If you do, and go into labor and cannot make it to your hospital they will not cover it!

I'm skipping our usual family Christmas visit this year as it's a 3 hour drive away and I really don't want to give birth on the M1! I'm due 10th Jan and have already told them we won't be going.

I know I'm not allowed to travel past 35 weeks since I had my first baby at 36 weeks. I'd ask your Dr about it bc there is a very big chance they won't allow it bc your going to be so close.

I will also be 36 weeks at Christmas- part of me just wants to gauge what's happening- my husband's family lives literally across the street from us so we can easily spend time with them but we usually go to my grandparents' who are about 2 hours away in SC. I'm considered high risk because of high blood pressure and my mom had pre-eclampsia and delivered a month early but in my family I don't think it would be that difficult for everyone to come to us if something does happen. I will wait to see what is happening 2 weeks before Christmas before I decide. Here at 18 weeks I haven't had any problems yet but it's hard to say what could happen in 4 more months!
