Nipple piercings and breast feeding?

Question

Are there any mothers out there who have their nipples pierced and have/are breast feeding? Is it hard or painful? I'm only eight weeks but I'm wondering if I should take them out in order to breast feed better when the baby comes.

I can't breastfeed but I have mine done. If I were to breastfeed, I would take them out. Your nipples will get sore and it can be uncomfortable. If you kept them in, it would just be a nuisance to put them in and take them out. You can always get them redone!

I don't have mine pierced but I am breastfeeding. With the amount of nursing they do with the first month, having metal in my nips would've been a nightmare. The jewelry also poses a bacterial and choking hazard to the baby, so that's something to consider.

My boyfriend had his done for a short time and when he took them out they took a while to heal and sometimes they would have some puss/ grossness so I'd want to get the healing process over with before baby's mouth is sucking on them if you know what I mean- I'm not breastfeeding yet but I know it can be painful and I would also imagine it would make it even more uncomfortable. I don't know though, never had mine done personally. Good luck!

I didn't take mine out until I went to breastfeed for the first time. Then I just left it out (only left one). It closed over and after we finished breastfeeding 9 months later I got both pierced. That was 3 years ago. This time around I'm going to try to take them out to feed and then put them back in. If that becomes too hard or creates an issue with my nipples then I'll just take them out again & get them repierced maybe diagonal or vertical instead

Not breastfeeding yet but in my opinion, you should definitely take the bars out to nurse. If you need to, increase bar size as your breasts swell. If the bar isn't long enough, it could cause discomfort and infection(depending on the age of the piercing.) The added benefit to nipple piercings is the extra holes. It doesn't necessarily make breastfeeding easier but it does provide more holes for the milk to come out.

I had them for 6 years. I took them about about 4 months before getting pregnant. They really didn't close. I'm now 4m pp and nursing just fine!
