D & C - Is it painful?

​Unfortunately I am starting to miscarry and will have a D & C tomorrow.  Is it painful and what is the recovery time? Thanks!

You might feel tired, a little weak, and just drained afterward, but no pain. I had general anesthesia. The procedure itself took 15 minutes and I was only under for 30 minutes total. My doctor recommended I take an extra day off work to recover, which I did, but I had no physical pain other than some very mild cramping on and off for 2 days. Then I had heavy bleeding for about 2 weeks. It was like a bad period but without any cramps. Best wishes and I am so sorry  for your loss.

My d&c ended my pain! I was in horrible labour to expel the placenta,morphine couldn't cut it. Sleepy time and the d&c, woke up groggy and soooo relieved to have the ordeal over. I'm sure you'll be fine. Sorry you're going thru this. I can relate :/

No, they put you under. You're asleep during the surgery. The only thing uncomfortable is the day before the procedure they put a device in the opening of your cervix to dilate it and that was one of the worse feelings I've ever had. Knocked the air out of my lungs. Wouldn't wish a D&C on anyone. Emotional and uncomfortable, but not painful.

I had mine awake, it wasn't painful just uncomfortable, felt slight pinching( maybe it was all in my head). Definitely had cramping especially when they applied the numbing medication. If I had to do it again, I'd take the asleep route. Hope I didn't alarm u. Good luck!
