My boyfriend ordered me an engagement ring today. We went to the jewelry store, I picked 3 that I liked, and my boyfriend picked which one so I'll still be surprised. I won't have it for 2 weeks since it's getting resized, but he still wants to propose, so we aren't technically engaged yet. Anyway, we aren't telling anyone about it until we're actually engaged. He asked my dad for permission, and of course my dad told my mom. So she knows. When I told her today we actually ordered the ring, she didn't seem to care. She was like "so...you're engaged?". That was her reaction. We've been saving to buy a house and she's been constantly saying "oh, get married before you buy a house together" and now we're getting married and she's super weird about it? She said wait a while before getting married. We've been together for 6 years, living together for 2, we're ready. She said they don't have any money to help pay for anything (I didn't even ask about money, she said that on her own). She also said that the only way we'll get her blessing is if we go to marriage counseling with a priest who's marrying us. My boyfriend isn't religious, and I am a Christian, but I don't think we're going to have a religious ceremony. I'm a Christian, but I don't go to church or anything. She's been ignoring me all day. I tried to call her like 20 minutes ago and she said she can't talk right now, she'll call me later.
