booty call or no?

my ex texted me at 3am asking me if i was up and if he could come over because he "needed someone to talk to"... he's been going through a lot lately and we're still friends, (no feelings involved or anything) so as a friend i said that he could. assuming he really needed someone to vent to. at the moment my mom and i were decorating the christmas tree (we're night owls), anyway, as i replied mentioning that he can help us out he turned it down instead, changing his mind. could he have just wanted to come over for sex? him and i haven't had any type of romantic/sexual relations since we've broken up 3 years ago. so why all of the sudden would he want that from me?
