does your SO help in the middle of the night with LO

FTM and this whole newborn sleeping schedule is exhausting. my boyfriend works full time so all week (mon-fri) I wake up every hour to feed and take care of my 3 week old girl. he sleeps right thru her crying. on weekends he helps sometimes but I feel that I should have a break because I am so exhausted. plus I am home with her all day long. does anyone else get help from their SO even if they work full time?

I felt that way with my first. But if i asked for help, he would. (Aka, watch the baby, change a diaper etc) it's hard when you breastfeed like I did bc your so really can't do much with feedings. She is now 10 and we are pregnant with our 2nd. I'll give you the best tip. I know you're exhausted now but this is just a phase and will go by in the blink of an eye. So ignore the housework sometimes and sleep when baby sleeps during the day. All hubby to pitch in with chores for a while. And just enjoy them while they're little because it really goes by fast (others used to say this to me, and didn't help much at the time but it really is sooooo true)

When I was home on leave, he'd help if I asked. When I went back to work, we started alternating nights so that we each had one night of uninterrupted sleep. Tell him what you need be it a night off or a weekend off, I'm sure he'll help, but maybe he doesn't realize. My husband had no clue how little sleep I was getting until I told him out of excitement that the baby was going three hours between feedings!

One thing that helped at the beginning, was I would bring our daughter into our bed in the morning (like her 5 or 6 am feeding) and after she ate we'd snuggle and we would both go back to sleep. That made me less tired because I was in no rush to get up.

We are fortunate to have such a calm baby girl. She will sleep anywhere between 3-5 hours at a time at night so only get woken 2-3 times and even then she's not very fussy cause I'll typically wake a bit before she starts to stir and then I change and feed her and we go right back to sleep. I actually try my best to be very quiet about it so I don't disturb my BD but he wakes up constantly throughout the night regardless to check that she's okay (we bed share). I don't have to ask or tell my BD to do much cause he's very responsive to her also, only occasionally do I have to tell him to pick her up because if she's awake, she doesn't like to stay laying down.

When my daughter was first born my husband I agreed that I would do the feedings and he would do the rest....that lasted about 2 days. He was impossible to wake up, by time he would finally get up, I'd have had the whole thing done. He would take forever with a diaper change and I'd have to listen to her cry while he clumsily tried to fumble with everything because he was too tired to do anything. When he did sleep he snored so much, I eventually just kicked him right out of the room. I got more sleep without listening to him snore, without spending 5 mins trying to wake him up, and by just doing everything myself.

We had a rough go of those first few months, actually probably the first year.

I know this isn't the case with every spouse, but it is very common, especially in men. That sense of urgency just isn't there like us. We react so differently than men do when it comes to babies.

I have a fair amount of friends who are homosexual, and I always thought, oh lucky you, it must be so nice having two women to care for a child...lol apparently it can be exactly the same.

I could have wrote this post. It's leads to feelings of resentment sometimes but I don't know how to voice it because he does work two jobs and make sure we have meals but I would like more help with baby girl especially on the weekends 😕😔

My husband works in ag. So he works soooo hard during the day. There were times when I was so tired so I'd ask him to take care of her. But it wasn't that often because I felt bad. Now I ask him for help all the time. I've gone over a year without getting a good nights rest. So he can help me out. And he does.

My husband works full time. When our baby was up during the night, he would change the baby's diaper and bring him to me to feed. I'd put him in the crib.

I'm very blessed to have my husband. He works 10-11hr shifts and will still come home and help with our newborn daughter so I can get some rest. He will even get up with her during the night if I'm just too tired.

My husband works 13- 15 hour days so he doesnt get up in the middle of the night on weekdays unless I ask him to, which is rare.

My hubby would wake up all night with baby even when he had to wake up at 3am to go to work, just so i could sleep before sending the day alone with baby while he was at work.

You should talk to your SO, or else you will become bitter and only more exhausted. Ask for more help. 💜
