Any tips/advice on things to know when moving out. I plan on getting my own apartment in a year or so and I am starting to get things together (:

If you've got a year, don't buy anything unless it's on sale.  Everything in a store comes up on sale at least once a year.  Only buy the essentials!  Save the rest of your money - you'll be grateful that you did in the long run.  You can find a lot of really good quality furniture second hand if you have the time to look for it. If relatives and friends know that you are moving out in advance, they can give you first dibs on things they are about to give to charity. My best advice is to sit down and make two lists.  On the first list, write down all of your essentials - bedding, towels, plates, etc..  On the second list, write down how you want your place to look and feel.  Be realistic.  Check off items as you go and don't acquire anything that doesn't go with both lists.  This will cut down on junk and keep you focused.  You are entering the most exciting part of your life and you are being really smart preparing for it in advance.  Stay smart and best of luck.

You can never have too many extra silverware. Seriously. they disappear into the twilightzone. Always keep your door locked, wouldn't hurt to have a bat or something either lol you just never know. (We live in a small town that you think nothing is going to happen to you, and we've been proved wrong.) Set a budget plan up you don't realize how much it cost living on your own until it happens. And it's a lot. And save save save. Decorations you can find cheep online or diy(fun when you don't have anything else to do).
