Wont induce until after 42 weeks?

So I went to the doctor today to find out I have no progress at all :/ then he tells me he thinks it'll be awhile. I asked when induction typically occurs. He says he won't even discuss it until 42 weeks? Is this normal that seems way too long to me? I'm concerned for my babies health. Have any other moms heard this or been induced this late? Im 38 weeks btw.

Just read an article the other day that babies who actually go past their due date and stay in longer have better success in school, problem solving, math, reading etc!

I was induced at 39 with all of mine as well. If this baby doesn't come before that then I will be induced at 39 weeks as well. Is it your first?

It's normal here in Ireland.  Only medical emergencies get induced before 42 weeks.

Yes it's completely normal. Babies are not considered full term until about 39 weeks so most doctors won't induce that early unless for medical reasons. They will most likely do non stress test starting at 40 weeks to check on baby. Women are not considered late until 42 weeks.

In the uk 42 weeks is the very latest. From exactly 42 you must stay in hospital for monitoring. Typical they induce 7-10 days past due date. I would not be happy waiting to be induced until dead on or after 42 weeks due to the placenta not working properly this late in pregnancy. It took me 4 days of labour and then an emergency c section to have my baby.

As long as your baby is doing fine, most doctor won't rush! It won't hurt your baby to stay in over 40 weeks! 💖 trust that when your baby is ready they will come on their own!

At my doctors office  they will induce at 39 weeks if you are 4 cm dilated. But otherwise once you reach 40 weeks if you want they will induce..

I'm getting induced at 39 weeks and with my daughter I was induced at 40 weeks but my daughter weighed 8lbs 11oz and was almost to big to make it through the birth canal so my son will be induced if he doesn't come before 39 weeks to decrease the chances of me having a c-section.

I think as a general rule, that sounds about right. Some doctors may choose to induce earlier on a case by case basis. With my first, my doctor gave me the option to either schedule it for 41 weeks or 42, and of course I chose 41. I have to admit, I get pretty jealous when I hear about women being induced or scheduled for c sections before their due date. At 36 weeks, I'm pretty miserable and keep hoping I only have a couple weeks left, and daydream a lot about it. But I most likely have a whole month left at the least.

My doctor said that the recommendation has changed from 42 weeks to 41 weeks for induction. He won't let me go past 41 weeks.
