Birth control?

i'm 16 and i have extremely heavy periods that are usually 2 weeks apart. i bleed through super plus tampons in about 4 hours and i bleed like that for 7-8 days and then i stop, like a switch. my doctor has recommended birth control, but my mother is very hesitant because she hates all kinds of medicines and i'm on antidepressants and she's worried i'm going to go off the wall because hormones (🙄). how do i convince her that going on birth control is a good idea?

It's lame that having incredibly heavy periods isn't enough to convince her. All bodies react differently, but I have depression, and it gets worse around my period, and since taking BC my depression doesn't get worse during that time of month.

Having my period just became an incredibly anxiety inducing thing. I had a similar problem, and had really bad cramps. My life revolved around my period and I couldn't do anything when I had it. If birth control helps with your heavy bleeding, it may be a HUGE improvement on your quality of life.

There are no natural ways to help your bleeding. Tell your mom that. Sometimes, we have to put medication into our bodies and that's okay. If your mom is concerned about your depression getting worse, maybe she could talk to your doctor? My mom is funny about certain meds and having a professional tell her about any potential problems that could arise from taking both birth control and antidepressants could possibly convince her. It's possible that it could make it worse but not all birth control is the same. If something doesn't work out for you, you are able to try a different type of hormonal birth control.

If you need it, you need it. Tell her you can't handle it anymore and that you are making the decision for YOUR own body. Not hers.
