can newborn get attached?

So my husband only comes home on the weekends since he works out of state and I don't know if this is a stupid question because I'm the mother but can my LO at 7 weeks old get attached to me already?!

When I've fed her, changed her, and she falls asleep on me I put her down in her rock n play and if she doesn't see me or I'm out of sight for what seems like more then a minute she starts fussing and then starts crying until I give her the binkie and she seems me again. I can literally only escape when she's sleeping. >-<

Totally normal & expected! Think of the first 3 months of your baby's life as a sort of "fourth trimester" where she is getting used to life on the outside. She spent roughly 40 weeks in your womb where it was warm, wet, and dark; she was always with you and quite literally attached. So it's a huge adjustment for her and she has a hard time separating herself from you. In her mind, you two are still a single entity, so imagine how scary it is for her when you put her down or leave her! It's impossible to spoil a baby, so don't worry about holding her too much or anything like that. The more affection and cuddles, the better! After 3 months, she will get less attached and be more self sufficient. In the meantime, try wearing her in a sling or carrier (like an Ergo Baby) - that way she's with you, but you have your hands free.
