Yeast infection and Monistat

So I have a yeast infection and they called me from the doctors office and told me to treat it with Monistat for 7 days. I tried it for the first time last night and it was the worse thing I have ever tried. I felt like my lady parts where on fire and the itching was unbearable. I feel like is not normal to feel itchy to that extreme. Anyone experience the same thing?
