How to sleep train 3 week old?

I know they say you can't. I know people that have been successful with it.

You don't. Some babies are just good sleepers from the get go. A newborn is purely needs driven. They don't have the capacity to understand why you aren't coming to meet their needs.

I would start by asking the prior who say they were successful with it .. there's a good chance they just had babies who were okay sleeping regularly though.

Get your baby used to the difference between daytime and nighttime. Keep lots of natural light in the house during the day and keep things dark at nighttime.

Be consistent. That's crucial.

Use the same morning and bedtime routine every day at the same time.. Your trying to sync their internal clock.

Be patient, your baby isn't even a month old just yet, it could take some time. Every baby is different.

I've heard that too, but I started day one and my daughter has slept like a dream! She'd only wake up for feedings and go right back to sleep- and by 3 months started sleeping 12 hours straight! I know I also just got lucky w her but she does have great sleep habits because we started early and strictly doing a bedtime routine, keeping lights off at night and noise down if we have to go in her room. I also keep all the lights and noise going during the day to make it really different than night time! And then in the am I ham it up with a good morning song lol (I can't help it I'm a preschool teacher!) I also put her in her crib right away and if she cries I keep her in the crib and shush and pat her.. Rarely I will pick her up to comfort her unless I know it's necessary, but she does not leave the room at night! I know that's not for everyone but that's just what works for us. :)  Basically I just tried to exaggerate the difference between night and day- I try to barely even make eye contact of I have to go feed or comfort her at night, so she knows it's time for sleep.

Sleeping through the night is a milestone just like rolling over, sitting up,  walking and talking and so on. You cant force it. Some babies are sleepers others are not. I don't reccomend trying to sleep train this young. He doesn't understand yet. He wont understand why he's crying and you're not there. You can keep it light and keep him active day time and dark and quite at night but that's not guaranteed to work.

Babies are always backwards when they are born because our movement makes them sleep while in the womb. When we are at rest at night they are active. The only way to reverse this is to stimulate them as much as possible and keep them awake during the day for as long as as you can. They will eventually get into the correct swing of things but it will take time.
