Natural remedy for dog's itchy ear?

My little dog has an itchy ear & I was hoping to try an at-home remedy rather than go to the vet first (I'll definitely take him if it persists of course). He goes regularly to the vet for things like 6-monthly check ups, heart murmur checks etc.

He has one ear up and the other tilted down. He's also been rubbing his ear into firm surfaces.

A relative thinks a natural lubricant such as a little olive oil massaged in well could help, but I'm unsure.

UPDATE: he's booked into the vet, I'm taking h after work. Thanks for the advice.

Please just take him to the vet. You don't know the state of the ear drum and putting home remedies could make it a lot worse.

I work at a vet, now for 4 years. If his ear is irritated/red/hot it's best to just take him. Let them clean his ears out safely and apply meds in ear. You don't want to wait to long because sometimes if a ear infections keep reoccurring and you wait and they shake their head a lot. Sometimes they can get ear hematomas; and are not fun.

This was happening with my dog too - we took him to the vet and it was an ear infection that took three different medications to clear 😐 ... I would take your dog in to get it checked!

Its most likely an ear infection. You can try cleaning the ear with a solution. But if its an infection, the dog needs antibiotics. The longer you wait the worse it gets as the yeast builds.
