How can we afford this?!

Why is baby furniture and necessities so darn expensive?! I don't know how we're ever going to afford all of this! We want to start our nursery ASAP but we were not prepared for so many obvious and hidden expenses. Is anyone else feeling completely overwhelmed by all of this? Our little nugget is only 15 weeks 4 days old, how in God's name can his things cost so much already?!

Girl I know!  I second all these ladies--seriously, only get the must-haves, and get most of it second-hand (except car seat and crib).  So tired of seeing moms post pics of their designer nurseries...30% of kids in America grow up in poverty, and people are spending 10 grand on a nursery?  Crazy. Smh.

I've been amazed at the amount of things gifted to us. Some great friends just so happen to be moving and their baby is just starting to outgrown many of his newborn items. I think many moms know about the crazy expenses and would love to see their gently used items continue on with another new mom!

The more you share your pregnancy news, the more people will come out of the woodwork with all sorts of items to gift you or sell at a discount!!

Also don't forget that the holidays are coming up! I expect we will ask for a lot of baby related items for Christmas instead of presents for ourselves. Otherwise agree with the others on buying only what's necessary and secondhand when possible, if you're comfortable with that.

My husband said to me today when looking at baby things, and keep in mind that he said so in a joking manner (it's his sense of humor): "I can see why some women get abortions, babies are fucking expensive! The crazy amount of money they charge for baby stuff is outrageous!"
We then proceeded to buy a maternity body pillow that was $65 so i can sleep at night.

Buy used! I bought crib on Wayfair for $160 and will buy new car seat. Almost everything else seems safe to yard sale and buy used online! Look for a neighborhood site for moms of people to sell used things. I think there are lots of them all over.

Also some insurances will cover a breast pump you will have to ask your employer, and if they do your doctor just has to write a prescription for it. The ones we get are very nice.

I'm on baby #8. Here is my advice, borrow and buy used whatever you can. In my experience I have always been willing to share what I have and have friends that are also great at sharing, most baby things are only used for a few months then outgrown, so most people will just loan you their stuff. If this is your first there are somethings you will want for your own a crib, a pack n play, a good baby carrier, car seats, and a bouncy seat (with vibrator). And even those things can be found used. Also have a diaper raffle at your shower.

I feel the same! Facebbok has good used baby stuff groups, and we are going to ask our parents for some presents or contributions towards a pram- those things are so expensive!

what I did was I went to garage sales I got everything I need. pretty much brand new everythinh crib, bassinet, car seats, a swing, and a few of the exercizer things. I spent around $100 for all of it. Try looking for garage sales I promise you will save a lot of money doing that then buying brand new from the store
