makeup/lip care

hey, so here's my issue. i wear makeup. i also take really good care of my face. i exfoliate on average twice a day (once in the morning and once to take off my makeup later) with a nice st ives face soap. i moisturize regularly and i use my prescribed acne cream all the time. when i put on makeup i prep my face with moisturizer and acne cream just before primer for extra protection. but when my foundation, concealer, and contour eventually all go on, it always looks kinda cakey/flakey/dry. i just can't get my face to look smooth and poreless and clean like i see all over youtube and i even try hacks like applying it with a damp beauty blender. and then another thing is i also exfoliate my lips and wear chapstick almost all the time too, but as soon as that lipstick goes on, whether it's a stick or liquid, it always ends up looking chapped and peeled soon after. i always put on chapstick before i put on lipstick of any sort and i try to stick with liquids but it doesn't make a difference. is there something im doing wrong? something i'm not doing? is it because i can only afford drugstore makeup? i'm not at all a super vain person, but i do like to do makeup because it's fun and it makes me feel more confident, but i feel like i'm not good enough at it because it never comes out nearly as nice as it does for makeup gurus on youtube. can someone give me advice? i have no clue what to do.
