I am straight but I've been curious about trying things with another girl for a while and one of my good friends that lives a few hours away from me is coming down tonight and we're going out and getting some drinks and dinner and celebrating some of our recent accomplishments and basically just having a girls night. She has to stay at my place for the night though and since I've been wanting to try things I thought it might be a good time to make a move? 
I'm about to move even further across the country from her and I don't get to see her much as is (unfortunately) so even though she's a really good friend I figured if it ended up being awkward the distance could help diffuse it. I don't really know how to go about it though????

What's her sexual orientation? If she's straight I wouldn't make a move because it would likely damage your relationship. She might feel pressured that if she isn't interested she might not have a place to spend the night. I would talk to her about if she's ever been interested in women and go from there. You do have to keep in mind that if something does happen between you two and it goes south you may lose a close friend. Is that something you're willing to risk? In my experience it's difficult to maintain a platonic friendship after sexual advances are made especially if one of you "catches feelings". However, if you both are aware of the risks and are both consenting go for it
