During pregnancy, the blood volume increases and the pressure from the growing uterus on the body's largest vein (the inferior vena cava) puts pressure on the other veins in the legs, thus making them more visible. Varicose veins usually resolve 3 to 6 months after giving birth, but there are things you can do now to prevent them from getting bigger, such as exercise and sleeping on your left side. Pregnancy support hose may also help.
