Sushi Bar Help?

I'm not sure if there's a group that you can ask like non health related questions but I figured I'd try this one. I totally understand if this is the wrong forum for this I just don't know where to ask.

I really want sushi and the last time I had it was my first time trying it. So I got a California roll and a crispy fried shrimp roll. The California roll has what's called tobiko on it which is fish eggs. They don't necessarily taste bad but the texture gets to me.

I just want to know if anyone knows if it's rude to ask the sushi chefs to forgo the tobiko.

I know in some cultures that's rude.

It may not be. 
The chefs on base, aren't really "part of the culture." so they don't mind when we do it. I guess it just depends on the chef. If anything, ask someone who works there if it would be rude to ask such before you do. x

It depends, if you go to a serious Japanese sushi bar with Japanese chefs - yes they likely will be offended but will probably still do it since you asked. If you go to one that isn't as traditional or Japanese - no they probably won't be offended and do it for you.
In Japan traditionally you aren't supposed to let a chef know he did poorly even if the food is gross as he has honored you with his cooking. You're supposed to thank them always and show that you love the food. So this is why if the chef is from that culture they likely will be offended, especially if they're older. The younger ones may not be as traditional and probably won't care.
