3cm dilated?

Hi all

I am 39+6 and had to have a growth scan today due to reduced movements. Everything was fine but baby too low to measure head but waters are fine and so is placenta. 

Whilst I was there they did a sweep (very uncomfortable!!) And said I was 3cm dilated, bulging waters and managed to get rid of some (looked like a lot) of my plug. However she did say my cervix neesed to soften some more. She told me to go on a nice long walk because everything looks promising.

Does anyone have any experience whether or not these are good signs I'm a first time mum with another sweep booked in for 48 hours.
