Is my 6mo eating too much??

My sons pedi gave us the green light at 4 months to give him solids... We waited till almost 5 months and did super well with it immediately. I went to his 6 month checkup and the doctor told me to feed him solids for breakfast, lunch and dinner now and 45min-1hour after nurse him.. I nurse on demand whenever he want so I still offer it to him a lot throughout the day/night. He doesn't really like to eat solids in the early morning so I've just been sticking to lunch and dinner still but tonight he ate 8oz of the Gerber purée food. He just kept opening his mouth for more so I opened a second 4oz container and he ate it all! Does this seem like too much? He even nursed an hour after eating as well... I just don't want to be overfeeding him or be the cause of bad eating habits😬 any advice would be really helpful

From what I've read giving too much solids can cause accidental early weaning from breastfeeding as it can cause baby to drink less breastmilk which causes you to produce less over time. I'm only giving a few spoonfuls a day of solids (though I waited till 6 months to start, so he's only been eating them for a bit over a week) as they're just to experiment, not for nutrition for the first year

If he's hungry he's hungry. If he's full he will stop eating.

My son eats 8oz of baby food per meal and also eats 8oz bottles between solid feedings.  I feel him until he's full. I don't want a hungry baby.

My daughter is 6 months as well and her doctor told me to feed her the same way and he wants her to drink 8oz every 4hrs .She began eating solids at 4 months though. She gets a bottle at 7:30am, than an hr later oatmeal/fruit. Than a bottle at 11:30am, hr later vegetable&fruit, bottle at 3:30-4, than about 1-2hrs later meat&veggie, than a bottle at 7:30-8, than bath and bed. She sleeps through the night and it's pretty much the same schedule. So she's drinking between 28-32oz and eats 3 meals. There are times where she gets upset like she wants more, but I tend to wait to see if she calms down within 5+ minutes to tell if she's really hungry or not. She will usually give me a clue to when she is full. She will close her mouth, smack at the spoon, or cry when the food is in her mouth. I think your baby is eating just fine.
