I knew one person who had it removed by a dr an she said that all they do is find the string an pull it out an yes it will b sore down there for a days. 
I also have another friend who had her husband remove it for her the exact same way. She never got any infection or bacteria an she also had 2 happy, healthy babies afterwards. 
Now dont misunderstand my response an think i am telling u to remove it yourself. I am just telling u my knowledge of both situations. Good luck sweetie

Go to a doctor! You could give yourself an infection you could need to be hospitalized for or cause damage to your uterus! DO NOT INSERT YOURSELF THAT IS A VERY BAD IDEA.

I would ask yourself why you feel inclined to do it yourself rather than wait a few days to have a doctor do it for you. Unless you have an incredibly strong reason I'd suggest waiting to have someone experienced take it out. . . I mean I don't know about you but the pain I had getting that bad boy in was so unbearable that if taking it out is even 1/3 as painful as getting it put in there's no way I could do it myself
