when does breastfeeding get easier?

It still hurts from poor latch! Baby girl is 3 weeks old. I have to help her latch and it can only be in the cross cradle position. I need my boppy. When I'm nursing I have to stay very still or else she will slip down and it's excruciating. Iv tried other positions but she can never latch correctly! I don't even know how to go about feeding her in public.

First things first, you need to get into see a good lactation consultant.  Second, get a little bit aggressive! That's only way I can think to put it, but when I was having a really hard time latching, my consultant help me realize that it's my job to really push baby onto the breast and help her stay there. I would use the palm of my hand to hold her back and keep her tight at my breast for several minutes before I would relax. It helped her a lot.  The other thing is hold onto your boob for quite a while because they're heavy and it is easy for the baby to slip off

Try a nipple shield! It saved my life and allowed me to successfully breastfeed. After a couple months I was able to wean him off and now we are breastfeeding champs. Before the shield I was in terrible pain! He even pulled off my breast one-time because my nipple started to bleed in his mouth! I love my nipple shield!

What helped me was also compressing my breast  and letting it go. My baby hates a slow flow, and it would speed the milk up. I was told to do that by an RN at the breastfeeding clinic

Try "laid-back breastfeeding" it made things a little easier for me. I'm 12 days pp and nipples are still sore but the latch is better

Amely has just gone 6 weeks and I can officially say that breastfeeding for us is now a breeze and totally pain-free! Except when she decides to play tug of war and dangle off my nipple😣

Another thing that can help the latch is to nurse really often when you can. Like every thirty minutes when you have the time. You get a much better latch when baby is only a little hungry.
