Use vacation for office party??

How common is this nonsense?? Was just told, (I asked, actually) if id have to make up time for during- office hours office party. Yes or use vacation! What!! If I had known I would not have agreed to go but there are only 11 of us and that would have been awkward. Really? Your own vacation for the office party?

That is really stupid. We have lunch and little parties at work all the time and we never use our vacation time.

We have to use our vacation time for office parties. Can't really justify charging someone else for the time and trust me you miss a couple of those and you will be on someone's list. Everyone else there is in the same situation, suck it up.

I'm sorry that sucks!! My work decided not to have a party this year, & even thought they don't make us use our vacay time I'm actually glad we don't have one...one less obligation for me!

At my last job they flew us to New Orleans for a weekend in a super swanky hotel, open bar and everything. This job, not even a bonus!
