can you be in love multiple times?

My boyfriend has told me before that he loved a girl he was with in the past. He always says he loves me. I have seen his past messages from before we dated about how he loved his ex gf before me and was deeply in love with her. Last night we were watching something and I said that I don't believe someone can fall in love multiple times. He said he agreed but couldn't give a reason why when I asked. I asked just to see if he was agreeing with me just so no argument or he actually thought that.... so do you think it is possible for someone to be in love many times? Or is it they think they are in love? I'm sorry if this is confusing...

I think there are many types of love. I've been in love several times, none of them quite the same. And maybe that's why some people say there's only one, because I think there is one love that stands above any other and it feels so different and out of this world. And you don't have to question it.

I agree with you. You can be infatuated with lots of different people but it takes a strong relationship for you to fall in love (it also takes YEARS). I have dated quite a few guys (even said "I love you") but ultimately I wasn't in love. I know what love is, and it wasn't with them. Love is so deep that once you fall in love once, it would be nearly impossible to find someone that could replace your broken heart.

I also believe that very few people actually fall in love though. I believe they grow VERY fond of one another but quickly "fall out of love". You can't fall out of love. Love is too deep and complicated for that. Those people were clearly just fond of  one another.

I don't think there's a law of nature that says that it's only possible to fall in love once, though people may think there is. People change. You could be in love with someone, something happens or they grow differently and they're not the person you fell in love with anymore. Does that mean you can't fall in love again? I don't think so. Or what if you were in love with someone and something happened or YOU grew differently and YOU'RE opinion of this person you were in love with before has changed? I don't think that means you can't fall in love again.
And like Kathleen said, there are different types of love. I'm totally a fangirl, and I will tell you "I love _______," and it's true, but I know that it's not the same love that I would give someone who actually loved me back.
