Racist parents
So I don't mean this as a way to justify it, but my parents are very Mexican. I've grown up in a very Mexican household. And my parents are very very prejudice against certain races, religions, sexualities, etc. In my moms defense a lot of it stems from her religious beliefs but again, I don't wanna use that as an excuse to dismiss anything.
And it doesn't just stop at my parents either, a lot of my (older) family members are prejudice as well. Luckily for me and my cousins it all skipped a generation and none of us feel the same ways they do..
But I don't know, it's just kind of hard sometimes. Being around negativity like that. Not to toot my own horn or anything but I'd like to think I'm extremely more open-minded than my parents are. I don't know, can anyone else relate? I'd like to speak up about it, and I do sometimes, but speaking against your parents is kind of seen as a disrespect thing. And I'm not trying to stir shit up. It's a tough situation.
